Pimantip Golf Club: Floodlit Golf by the Airport (formerly Star Dome)

Pimantip Golf Club sits on the Wing 41 air force grounds right next to Chiang Mai Airport, and longtime visitors may know it better by its old name: for years this was Star Dome Golf Club, until the air force took the course back under its own management in 2020 and returned it to its original name. The course itself never went anywhere, nine holes with water in play on every one of them, Doi Suthep on the horizon, and the occasional aircraft adding drama to your backswing. It remains a favorite of locals and expats, which is usually the best endorsement a course can have.

Why We Recommend It

• Convenience: about 15 minutes from most hotels, the shortest drive to a real round in Chiang Mai, and even practical on departure day with an evening flight

• Night golf: the nine is floodlit and the driving range next to it is the biggest in northern Thailand, with rows of bays lit into the evening, so golf here does not have to end at sunset

• Value: honest local rates that make an extra round, or an evening bucket of balls, an easy yes

Practical Notes

• It is a nine-hole course, par 36; for a full 18 you simply play the loop twice, with the water waiting on every hole both times
