A full day inside Doi Inthanon National Park with Maewin and Family, whose guides come from the villages on the mountain's southern slopes. The day combines walking on the park's trails with a visit to the summit, the highest point in Thailand at 2,565 metres. It suits walkers who want cool mountain air, cloud forest and big views rather than a jungle trek, and it is a long day: around eleven hours door to door.

You are collected at your hotel early for the drive of roughly two hours up the mountain. Inside the park the walking is on maintained nature trails through moss-covered cloud forest, quite different from the lowland forest around Chiang Mai, with your guide explaining the plants, birds and the Karen and Hmong communities who live in the park. The summit itself is reached by a short, easy boardwalk loop. Lunch is included, and the drive back brings you into Chiang Mai in the early evening.

It is noticeably colder at the top, often below 10 degrees in the cool season mornings, so bring a warm layer even in the hot months. Wear walking shoes with grip; the boardwalks and forest paths are damp and slippery.

Bookings open up to 150 days ahead; the latest date you can book is Sun 28 Feb 2027.
