Frequently asked questions
Most nationalities get a visa on arrival at the border, paid in cash. Some can enter visa free, and an e-visa is possible online in advance. Check the rule for your passport before you travel; the visa fee is not part of the package.
No. The boat sells a few drinks and snacks only. Buy food before boarding each morning, and eat dinner in Pakbeng, where there are simple restaurants near the pier.
The first night at Huay Xai is part of the package. The second night in Pakbeng is normally booked by you; Pakbeng has plenty of guesthouses within walking distance of the pier. Ask us if you want it arranged.
This is a transport package, not a guided tour. Staff and drivers make sure you get to the right vehicle, through the border and onto the boat, and the company offers phone support along the way.
The slow boat pier is a short drive outside the town centre. Shared tuk-tuks and taxis wait at the pier and take you into town for a small fee.
Yes, a private van version is available on request; the boat itself is shared.
