Frequently asked questions
The sanctuary lists one pickup window, 08:00 to 08:30 from city centre hotels, for its full and half day visits. The half day is about six hours door to door, so expect to be back in the early afternoon; the office confirms the exact time with your booking.
The sanctuary does not offer riding and says it uses no chains or hooks because its elephants roam free. It is a hands-on visit rather than observation only: you feed the elephants and join them in the mud and the river, and some reviewers point that out. That is what the supplier states about its own care; we have not audited it ourselves.
Light clothes that can get wet and muddy, plus sandals or water shoes that stay on your feet. The sanctuary hands out mahout style shirts to wear over your own clothes, and the guides take photos during the day and post them on the sanctuary's Facebook page. Bring a full change of clothes and a towel for the ride home.
The elephant activities go ahead in light rain; the elephants do not mind and neither will you once you are already wet. Heavy rain can change the river activities, and the guide decides on the day.
About an hour and a half each way from the city centre, through farmland and into the hills of Mae Taeng district.
Yes, the same elephant activities: food preparation, feeding, walking, mud spa and river. Only the start time differs. Neither half day includes the trek or the rafting.
