Pickup is between 08:00 and 08:30 from accommodation within 5 km of the Old City. Further out there is a small surcharge. You are back in the city around 19:00.
No. Joy Elephant Sanctuary is observation-only: you prepare the elephants' food and feed them from a respectful distance, then watch them in the forest. There is no riding, no bathing with the elephants and no touching.
No. The mahouts are Karen and work with voice commands and trust built up over years with each elephant. The sanctuary says it uses no hooks.
Yes, all ages are welcome. There is a child rate for ages 4 to 9 and infants aged 0 to 3 travel free. Young children need close parental supervision around the elephants.
Yes. The meal is one or two Thai dishes with seasonal fruit, and vegetarian, vegan, allergy and other dietary needs are catered for as long as the sanctuary knows before your visit. Tell us when you book.
The sanctuary operates all year round, including in rain. The forest is green and the elephants do not mind. Bring a light rain jacket in the rainy season, roughly May to October.
