Frequently asked questions
Pickup is from hotels in Chiang Mai city. The camp sits in the Mae Taeng valley about an hour north of town, so allow around 60 to 90 minutes each way.
No. The family that runs the camp took in former working elephants and keeps them on their own hillside. Visitors feed, clean and bathe the animals but do not ride them.
It is a supplement the mahouts give the elephants regularly, made from ingredients put out at the camp. You mix and shape the balls yourself and then feed them to the animals.
Yes, families bring children of all ages. Small children stay close to an adult during feeding and bathing.
No. The bathing happens in shallow water near the bank, and you can stay on the edge if you prefer to keep dry.
The program runs in light rain. Bring a rain jacket in the wet season; the elephants do not mind the weather.
