Frequently asked questions
Pickup is from hotels in Chiang Mai city. The camp sits in the Mae Taeng valley about an hour north of town, so allow around 60 to 90 minutes each way.
It depends on the month. From about January to March the water is calm enough for families. In the rainy season, especially August and September, the rapids are strong and the trip is for confident paddlers only.
You wear a life jacket and helmet the whole time, but you should be comfortable in moving water because falling out in a rapid does happen.
Families do this trip and children join the rafting in the calmer months. For the ATV, younger children normally ride as a passenger rather than drive. Tell the office the ages when you book so the supplier can confirm.
Roughly one and a half to two hours for 8 km, depending on the water level. The rest of the half day is the drive, the briefing and lunch.
Rain does not cancel the day. Higher water actually makes the rafting more lively. Bring a light rain jacket and keep your phone in a dry bag.
