Where does the pickup start and how long is the drive?

Pickup is from hotels in Chiang Mai city. The camp sits in the Mae Taeng valley about an hour north of town, so allow around 60 to 90 minutes each way.

Do I need experience to drive the ATV?

No. The quads are automatic with a thumb throttle, and you get a briefing and a practice run before the trail.

Families do this trip and children join the rafting in the calmer months. For the ATV, younger children normally ride as a passenger rather than drive. Tell the office the ages when you book so the supplier can confirm.

Can I swim at the waterfall?

Yes, when the water level allows. Bring swimwear and sandals with a strap because the rocks are slippery.

What happens if it rains?

Rain does not cancel the day. Higher water actually makes the rafting more lively. Bring a light rain jacket and keep your phone in a dry bag.

A full day of outdoor activity about an hour north of Chiang Mai, at the family-run camp at Kaeng Kued on the Mae Taeng river. It combines an hour on the ATVs, a 4 km rafting run and a visit to a waterfall in the same valley, so the day is busy without long drives in between. It suits active travellers and families with older children who want variety rather than one long activity.

After hotel pickup and the drive out, you start on the ATVs. They are automatic with a thumb throttle, so a short briefing and a practice loop are enough before you follow your guide for an hour along forest tracks and the riverbank. Lunch is at the camp. For the rafting the guides fit you with a life jacket and helmet, explain the paddle commands and drive you upstream; the 4 km run back passes a handful of rapids and takes about an hour, gentle in the cool season and lively in the rains. The waterfall stop is the calm part of the day, a chance to swim or just sit in the spray before the drive back to Chiang Mai.

Drinking water, insurance and an English-speaking guide are included. Bring a full change of clothes and shoes that can get wet and muddy.
