Karen Elephant Serenity is one of the smaller projects in the Elephant Nature Park family, set in the forested hills of Mae Wang about 90 minutes south of Chiang Mai. Three elephants live here, including a young female born in 2019, and the day is built around walking with them at their own pace. The walking is easy to moderate, so it suits families with young children, older visitors and anyone who wants elephant time without a hard hike.

Pickup is between 08:00 and 08:30 from hotels in Chiang Mai city, or 08:00 at the park office. On arrival you meet the elephants and feed them fruit, then help mix their medicinal health balls from rice, bananas, husks and salt. You follow the herd through grassland and forest as they forage, mud bathe and dust bathe, with a stop at a lookout tower. A vegetarian Thai buffet lunch is served overlooking the valley. In the afternoon you watch the elephants drink and swim in the stream and play in the mud pit, then choose between bamboo rafting on the Mae Wang river or making a fruit cake for the elephants. You are back in the city between 16:00 and 16:30.

Groups are small, eight to ten guests, and the project runs on the Saddle Off principle: no riding and no unnatural activities. The site has bathrooms, showers and lockers. Bring clothes that can get dirty, plus a swimsuit and towel if you plan to raft.

Bookings open up to 150 days ahead; the latest date you can book is Sun 28 Feb 2027.
